Dr Leo Waaijers has won the 2008 SPARC Europe Award for Outstanding Achievements in Scholarly Communications. The award was presented to him this week during the fourth Nordic Conference on Scholarly Communications at the University of Lund, Sweden. The past four years Leo Waaijers proved himself an advocate for open access to research results via the Internet for SURF, the collaborative organisation for higher education institutions and research institutes aimed at breakthrough innovations in ICT.

SPARC has also just released a white paper, "Open doors and Open Minds", together with Science Commons, for authors and institutions.Thanks to its efficient formula, this document can be used by local institutional staff as a roadmap for implementing an institutional OA mandate/policy.  Read more.
